Description (May contain spoilers)
Alpha David gets a surprise when his Omega husband reveals he’s pregnant.
This fic is inspired by the prompt ‘Omegathon’.
“David, I’m pregnant,” Charlie said calmly after sitting his mate down.
“What?! You can’t be,” David insisted adamantly.
Giggling a little, Charlie replied, “Of course I can, I’m an Omega.”
“No, I know that.” David sighed, “I mean, we were careful, weren’t we?”
“Well, no protection is 100%. And the risk is even higher if you’re in rut at the same time as I‘m in heat.”
“But, when?” David asked, clearly shaken.
“Well, I’ve not been for any tests yet, but, if I was guessing, I’d say about a month ago when we were staying in that cute B&B.”
David thought back to their trip to Devon the month before; neither of them had been due to go into their mating cycle but something about the fresh sea air and the romantic little cottage they were staying in triggered it early. They were both insatiable, and when they left, they had to apologise profusely to Mrs Tibbs, the owner, for breaking quite a few things in the room. She was very understanding, especially when Charlie handed over a wedge of notes to pay for any repairs.
“I just, wow.” David stood and started pacing the room. “This can’t be real, it can’t be.”
Charlie joined him and placed a cautious hand on his Alpha’s bicep, “David, are you ok?”
David didn’t reply. He rushed out of the room, out of the house and just started walking. He didn’t know where he was going, he just needed to get out; he needed to think. Somehow, he made it to the local park when he was snapped out of his own head by his phone ringing.
When he answered the call, before he had a chance to say anything, the voice at the other end was shouting at him so loudly he had to hold his phone away from his ear.
“DAVID ELIZABETH NELSON-SPRING! WHAT THE FUCK DID YOU DO?!”
“Mia, stop shouting down the phone.” David called back to his best friend.
“Sorry, but I still stick by, ‘What the fuck did you do?’” Mia replied more calmly this time.
“What-” David started but he was interrupted before he could continue.
“Don’t pretend you don’t know what I’m talking about. Your beautiful Omega called me crying his eyes out. So, I ask you again, what happened Davey?”
Plonking himself down on the nearest bench, David sighed before speaking, “Charlie’s pregnant.”
“Well, that’s great news isn’t it?” Mia asked. David didn’t reply. “Isn’t it? David, are you still there?”
“How can I be a dad, Mia?” David whined.
“What do you mean?”
“I haven’t the first clue how to be a dad. Mine was hardly a role model for good parenting. What if I screw everything up?”
“Oh Davey,” Mia sighed, “No parent knows what they are doing. Even when they’ve been doing it for years, they still get things wrong. The most important thing is to be present; to be there for your Omega and your pup.”
“Maybe he’d have been better with Nick… I bet he wouldn’t have run out on his Omega.”
“You can’t know how your brother would have reacted, but David, I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: Charlie picked you, he literally claimed you.”
David’s fingers ghosted over his mating gland where Charlie’s permanent mark had been left a few years ago. He and Nick had fought over Charlie and despite Nick being the physically more impressive Alpha, Charlie picked David. He still didn’t know how he got so lucky.
“What’s this really about, buttercup?”
David rubbed the back of his neck, “What if,” he paused, “What if I’m like him?”
“Like who?” Mia asked, confused.
“My papa,” David said, his voice barely above a whisper.
“Oh! The fact you even care about that proves you are nothing like him, David. I’ve known you for years and I know you will make an amazing Dad. Both you and Charlie will be great parents. You just need to be there for each other; like right now, you need to get your perky arse back home and beg forgiveness for abandoning your boy at his most vulnerable moment.”
“Urgh, why did I do that?” David groaned.
“You were afraid. It was instinct, but now it’s time to put on your big boy pants, and go home!”
“Thanks Mia,” David said his goodbyes before pocketing his phone. He headed back to the home he and Charlie bought when they got married. Staring up at the little house, he took a deep breath and remembered all the good times they’d shared together under this roof. The parties with friends and family, the quiet nights in, the not so quiet nights in, too. Everything was changing but David could do this, he had to do this, he wanted to do this.
David opened the door softly, hoping not to alarm Charlie. He stepped inside and went to the living room to look for him, but he wasn’t there. Trying the kitchen, he found nothing but emptiness there too. He headed upstairs and could smell the distressed Omega before he could see him.
Following the overwhelming scent, David cautiously opened their bedroom door and softly called out, “Char, can I come in?” There was no response. Stepping into the room slowly, the sight before him made his heart break. All the covers and pillows from the bed had been dragged away into the corner, where his Omega was curled up in a new nest sobbing into the colourful fabric.
Approaching slowly but careful not to get too close, David kneeled down to Charlie’s level. “Char, it’s me, baby.” But Charlie didn’t move, he didn’t look up.
“Charlie, please. I know I messed up big time, but please, please look at me,” he begged.
Charlie slowly raised his head, his eyes red and puffy, his cheeks damp from tears. David wanted to rush to his side and take him into his arms, but he knew better than to enter an Omega’s nest without their permission, even if they were mated.
“Oh baby, may I join you?” David asked, hoping he hadn’t messed up so badly that Charlie would reject him.
Thinking for a moment that felt like the longest pause he’d ever experienced in his life, Charlie softly begged, “Please,” holding out his arms for David to wrap him in the cutest grabby motion.
As a wave of relief washed over him, David rushed into the nest, as careful as he could to not disturb the placement of the soft furnishings assembled inside. He pulled Charlie into his arms and immediately started to release soothing pheromones to reassure him.
“I’m so sorry, Char,” David spoke softly as he held him tight to his firm chest. “I just, I got scared.”
“Don’t you want our pup?” Charlie asked, the pain clear in his voice between sobs.
“Of course I do, Char! It wasn’t that.”
“It wasn’t?” Charlie hiccupped between sobs, slightly more hopeful.
“No, baby. It was about me. I was worried that I wouldn’t be a good dad to our pup and that you deserve a better Alpha than me. An Alpha like-” David cut himself off before he could say his brother’s name.
Charlie turned his head as best as he could to look at his husband, “David, you are my Alpha. I chose you. You both gave me the choice then, and if I had to choose all over again, I would still choose you. You are kind, funny, sensitive, sexy and I know that our pup is going to be so lucky to have you for a dad.”
“Char,” was the only word David could manage, as tears started falling down his cheeks.
“Why are we like this?” Charlie asked with a smirk.
“I don’t know,” David giggled.
Charlie’s face turned serious once more as he tentatively asked, “So, you do want our pup?”
Smiling broadly at his love, David replied, “Just call me Daddy.”
